Lol Mason (vocals) / Mike Slamer (guitars, vocals) / Steve Broughton (guitars, vocals) / Max Thomas (keyboards, guitars, vocals) / Chris Dunn (bass, vocals) / Roger Kent (drums, percussion)

The first time that I saw this band I was still at home in Scarborough (college at Doncaster was still a few months away). Great harmonies throughout – only drummer Kent didn’t chip in with vocals – and with a very prog edge to their songs I really enjoyed this gig.

I vividly remember buying a copy of the first album when I was away in Doncaster. The shop was the now long-gone Bradley’s Records & Tapes on the corner at one entrance of the old Arndale Centre (now Frenchgate)* where they made a habit of selling albums really cheaply (about £1) because the covers had ‘been mislaid’, i.e. some thieving git had stolen it from the racks. Anyway, I picked this one up very cheaply – about £1, I believe – and subsequently wrote to Phonogram or whoever had printed the sleeve asking for a replacement and they duly obliged! It was a system which served me very well as I managed to buy up several albums in this way and always acquired sleeves from the manufacturers. 🙂

Setlist.fm has no record even of the gig never mind a setlist so I’ll just guess that they played material from their eponymous first album with, perhaps, a couple of new tunes thrown into the mix; I really don’t know for sure.

Setlist: unknown

*As a footnote, apparently TV celebrity Jeremy Clarkson made his first ever cassette tape purchase – Genesis’ ‘Selling England By The Pound’ – at this very same shop (below). 🙂 (link)
