Flight: Wednesday 20th August 1975, The Penthouse, Scarborough

1975 FLIGHTMick Adamson (vocals) / Kevin Nixon (guitar, bass) /

Yet another strange one in that it was a Wednesday night gig at this predominantly Friday-based venue; thinking about it, they were only a small-time band so my guess is that they were booked just to bring a gig to the venue midweek. Anyway, there seems to have been a lot of bands actively using the name Flight down the years but this looks to me like the one that I saw. They were a York-based glam rock band, so they were right on our doorstep (hence the midweek gig). Discogs reveals that they didn’t release any albums but did cut three singles right around the time that I saw them: ‘What Am I To Do’ b/w ‘Is This The Way’ (1974); ‘Save Me Children’ b/w ‘Are You Coming Out Tonight’ (1975); ‘Overnight Sensation’ b/w ‘It’s Only Money’ (1975). Two of those A-sides can be found on YouTube and they’re not bad if truth be told, although very much of the Seventies! Obviously there is no setlist available but we do have six songs to work with there. And that’s it, I’m afraid. As you will see, I know only the names of two members of the band and whilst I know that Nixon played both bass and guitar I’m not sure which he actually played as a member of this band. I very rarely left the Penthouse having seen a poor band, so I’m guessing that this lot were decent at worst but it looks like we’ll never know for sure.
