‘The Rotters’ Club’ tour
Phil Miller (guitar) / Dave Stewart (keyboards) / Richard Sinclair (bass guitar, lead vocals) / Pip Pyle (drums)
And now we’re back into the realms of “was I there, or wasn’t I?” as I honestly can’t remember whether I bothered or not. Looking back H&TN were not a favourite band of mine, but I see no reason as to why I would have passed up a good Friday night out at the Penthouse anyway, so I’m of the opinion that I was probably there. Only probably, mind… The band was a sort of art/prog rock band which certainly would have ticked one of my boxes and seems to have been a sort of offshoot from the Canterbury scene, so with Caravan being a definite favourite the case for my having been present grows ever stronger! Listening to some of their material in later years it seems pleasant enough so I’m guessing that I would have enjoyed the evening, but clearly not enough for them to have made a particularly lasting impression upon me. Perhaps Steve Toal can remember a bit more than I and chime in with a comment? 😉 I can’t find a verified setlist from the gig but there is one from just a couple of days later which confirms that they were playing material from their eponymous debut album and the newly released ‘The Rotters’ Club’ LP.
Possible setlist: Mumps / Lumps / Prenut; Share It; Lounging There Trying; The Yes No Interlude; Halfway Between Heaven and Earth; Fitter Stoke Has a Bath; Didn’t Matter Anyway; Your Majesty Is Like A Cream Doughnut; Oh What A Lonely Lifetime (from two days later at London’s Rainbow Theatre)
And here’s some footage of the band from that Rainbow gig just a couple of days later…
