Scarborough Penthouse, The Noy's Band

The Noy’s Band: Friday 25th July 1975, The Penthouse, Scarborough

NOY'S BAND singleDerek Noy (vocals, guitar, multi-instrumentalist) / Patrick Dean (guitar) / Fiona Dellar (percussion) / Danny Lagger (bass) / Maurice McElroy (drums, percussion) / Alan Rhodes (bass) / Eddy Spence (keyboards, saxophone)

This is another band/gig about which I have no recollection but writing on the Penthouse Facebook group Steve Burns says of them “I’d seen them a few weeks earlier in Leeds supporting Kevin Coyne, so knew what to expect, and wasn’t disappointed. Hate giving ‘reference points’ about bands, but maybe I could say that they ploughed the same furrow as Kevin Ayers?”

A quick internet search tells me that they had formed in 1974 and would disband in August 1975, only a month after I had seen them. Discogs has them down as a prog rock band and indicates that they released just the one single in 1974, a re-hash of the old Clovers hit ‘Love Potion Number Nine‘ so Lord knows what material they played when I saw them. Noy would later re-invent himself as punk Rip Snorter, and also Jan Dukes de Grey.
