Jonathan Kelly’s Outside: Friday 7th June 1974, The Penthouse, Scarborough

Jonathan Kelly albumThe ‘…Waiting On You’ tour

Jon Ledingham (Jonathan Kelly) (guitar, vocals) / Snowy White (guitars) / Tim Staffell (vocals, percussion) / Kuma Harada (bass) / Darryl Lee Que (congas, timbales) / Dave Sheen (drums, percussion)

As I have already said on more than one occasion on this blog, it’s very strange how one’s memory plays trick on one. I could have sworn that this was a folk outfit, but it seems to have been more of a soft-rock band featuring soon-to-be-ace guitarist Snowy White who would later join Pink Floyd and Thin Lizzy. The band would have been promoting their one and only album – released 21st June – and the non-album single ‘Outside‘. There is no setlist available but we can safely assume that the songs would have come from that album and also from Kelly’s extensive folk background. I honestly can’t remember the gig but there’s an excellent website HERE which covers Kelly’s career with lots of narrative, photographs and press cuttings; it is well worth a read when you have time. The record company advert below has influenced my line-up above; that advert is from just a fortnight after my gig, so I’m guessing that the band was utilising those musicians rather than the five who recorded the album itself, so we have lost Chas Jankel (guitars) and Trevor Williams (bass).
